It is not noticeable right away from the scenery that we are in The Netherlands, but this type of bicycle with this decoration is a strong indication. And the sticker on the post helps confirming it...

Tenho de admitir que é um pouco de batota pois não é exactamente uma foto de uma bicicleta mas de várias, numa das muitas lojas que existem por toda a cidade e que inclui uma oficina. O porquê desta? Porque tem o nome correcto: Loja de Bicicletas de Amesterdão.

I have to admit is a bit of cheating since its not quite the photo of a bicycle but of several, in one of the many stores that exist all over town and that includes a repair shop. Why this one? Because it has the correct name: Amsterdam Bike Shop.

Até agora ainda não me tinha apercebido destas bicicletas com este nome tão simples e directo, até ver uma data delas no parque duma estação de metro. Todas brancas que com o sol radioso de final da tarde, tornam-se claras demais.

Until now I haven't notice these bicycles with this simple and direct name, until seeing a bunch of them in the parking space of a metro station. All white that in the radiant afternoon sun, become too bright.

0629 - Puch Crunch

Para mim Puch sempre foi sinónimo de motas ou motorizadas antigas, do tempo dos meus tios pois sempre ouvi histórias do irmão mais novo da minha mãe que fazia avarias na sua Puch. A empresa austríaca pelos vistos sobreviveu até hoje, e na Holanda encontram-se bicicletas, como esta Puch Crunch de senhora.

To me Puch was always a synonim of old motorbikes, from the time of my uncles as I always heard stories of my mother's younger brother doing his stunts on his Puch. The Austrian company seems to have survived until now and in The Netherlands bicycles are found, such as this Puch Crunch for ladies.

0627 - By mistake?

Esta bicicleta, que apesar dos autocolantes não consigo identificar, tem um detalhe curioso. O guiador está montado ao contrário fazendo ângulo para baixo e fora ao invés de para cima e dentro como é normal nas bicicletas tipo BTT. Se foi erro de montagem não sei, mas erro foi mesmo meu em tirar a foto de um ângulo onde não é perceptível o pormenor do guiador!

This bicycle, that in spite of the stickers I cannot identify, as a curious detail. The handlebar is upside down with a downward and opening angle, instead of upward and closing as its normal in MTB bikes. Don't know it it was a mistake in the assembly, but there was an error on my part taking the photo from an angle were its not perceptible the detail of the handlebar!

Whilst some leave their bicycles by the entrance of the station, others prefer to leave by the trains timetable, perhaps because they need to consult it before taking one.

0619 - Perfect fit

Não sei se foi mesmo de propósito mas na parte destinada à carga cabe perfeitamente 2 caixas de fruta. Apesar de não ser facilmente perceptível na foto, outro pormenor curioso desta bicicleta é a buzina vermelha.

Don't know if it was meant this way but the cargo area is a perfect fit for 2 fruits boxes. Although not easily perceivable in the photo, another curious detail of this bicycle is the red bulb horn.

0616 - In the metro

Tal dito noutra publicação anterior, as bicicletas podem ser levadas dentro do metro, apesar de pelas regras o número total ser limitado e terem lugar próprio para as mesmas, mas quando viaja pouca gente, não tem problema em estar junto do dono.

As said previously on another post the bicycles can be carried inside the metro, although by the rules the total number is limited and they have a specific spot for them, but when there is few people, there is no problem to be next to the owner.

0612 - In the platform

Não é nada normal ver-se bicicletas na plataforma das estações de metro. Isto porque pode-se transportar bicicletas dentro do metro e para quem só as usa para ir até à estação, existem estacionamentos para as biclas à entrada.

Its not at all normal to see bicycles on the metro station platform. Because you can carry bikes in the metro with you and for those who only use them to go to the station there is always a parking place for bikes at the station entrance.

Para além da variedade em formatos, marcas, modelos e cores de bicicleta, por aqui também se encotnra variedade em nomes. Esta tem um nome do pequeno mamífero carnívoro, o mangusto.

Besides the variety in shapes, brands, models and colours of bicycles we also find here a variety in names. This one has the name of the small carnivore mammal, the mongoose.

0604 - Let's take the train

Na Holanda pode-se levar as bicicletas nos comboios fora das horas de ponta e para quem tem passes de transporte (e o espaço no comboio é limitado). Não está claro se é possível pagar mais para as levar nas outras circunstâncias mas o normal é ver-se as bicicletas estacionadas nas estações. Neste caso a bicla ficou mesmo à entrada, e o ciclista quase que sai directo do comboio e monta na bicicleta.

In The Netherlands Bicycles may be taken on the train during off-peak hours by those who have travel cards (and the space in the train is limited). It is not clear if its possible to pay extra to take them on the other circumstances but the usual is to see the bikes parked at the stations. On this case the bike stayed right at the entrance and the cyclist can almost jump directly from the train onto the bike.

All these bicycles of different sizes, locked together and to each other suggest that this is a family fleat, with 3 kids, the 2 parents and the sixth bike probably belongs to a teenager or another adult.

0593 - Rocky

Mais uma bicicleta de valor prático dúbio aqui na Holanda, a não ser que seja de alguém de, ou que vá, para fora, porque esta até com pneus de terra está equipada. E o nome condiz com o tipo de bicicleta, mas como as estradas aqui são tudo menos rochosas (nem montanhosas) esta bicicleta passa o tempo todo parada na garagem, pelo menos desde que a vi por lá.

Another bicycle of dubious practical value here in The Netherlands, unless it belongs to someone from, or that goes to, abroad because this one is even equipped with dirt tires. And the name matches the type of bike but since the roads around here are everything but rocky (or hilly) this bike spends all the time parked in the garage, at least ever since I seen it there.

0581 - Pink like the jersey

Acabou há pouco mais de 1 semana o Giro d'Italia a primeira (no calendário) das 3 grandes voltas ciclistas de actualidade. Apesar de ter estado em Itália por essa altura (e ter fotos de bicicletas italianas) não encontrei nenhuma que pudesse associar ao evento. Já em Amesterdão encontrei esta mesmo ao pé de casa, que não sendo italiana nem de competição é rosa como a camisola do vencedor.

Around 1 week ago finished the Giro d'Italia the first (in the calendar) of the 3 big cycling tours of the present time. Although I was in Italy around then (and took photos of Italian bikes) I didn't find any that I could associate to the event. Back in Amsterdam I found this one really close to home that although its not Italian nor a competition model, its pink like the winner's jersey.

Still in the land of polders a bicycle that has a diverse decoration even if not particularly colourful. It almost seems covered in newspaper but its not, it looks closer to be covered in comics, usually liked by the children...

0575 - Living statue bike

De regresso à terra dos moinhos eis uma bicicleta que, por estar toda pintada de bronze, será certamente usada por um homem-estátua ou para ele se deslocar ou mesmo como parte integrante da sua performance...

Back in the land of mills here's a bicycle that, because it is completely painted in bronze, is most certainly used by a living-statue either for him to use as transport or as an integral part of his performance...

0572 - New York Pizza

Apesar das scooters ainda serem muito usadas para a entrega das pizzas, até parecia mal na Holanda não existirem bicicletas de entrega, ainda para mais quando se pode usar bicicletas eléctricas que rentabilizam o esforço do rapaz das pizzas.

Although the scooters are still frequently used for pizza delivery it would look bad not having bicycles for delivery in The Netherlands specially since one can use electric bikes that make the most out of the effor of the pizza boy.

0569 - In Holland

Uma bicicleta single-speed sem travões, cor de laranja, junto a um canal e com algumas (pequenas eu sei) flores, só podia ser na Holanda portanto o autocolante com o nome no quadro assenta na perfeição.

A single-speed bicycle without brakes, colour orange, by a canal e with some (little I now) flowers, it could only be in Holland so the sticker with the name in the frame fits perfectly.
