0639 - Transporter

---

Until now I haven't notice these bicycles with this simple and direct name, until seeing a bunch of them in the parking space of a metro station. All white that in the radiant afternoon sun, become too bright.

0638 - Small and useful...

June 2013 - Costa Nova do Prado, Ílhavo, Portugal

Useful bikes. You can see a city and then, put it in your car and go for another town...

0637 - Cannondale

Julho 2013 - Lavra, Matosinhos, Portugal

It is with this fantastic looking Cannondale (and with oval chainrings) that Wilson does his daily training sessions. And when the Summer heat makes it hard to do them by the end of the day, he trains early morning.

0636 - Downtown Coimbra

July 2013 - Coimbra, Portugal

---

Who said that in a hilly town, you can't use your bike???

0632 - Praça do Peixe

Julho 2013 - Aveiro, Portugal

---

Another one from the land of ovos moles (litreally soft eggs)... The Fish Market is a reference in Aveiro. In the morning people sell and buy fish, at night it is the epicentre of the city's night life. Unique exemplar of the iron architecture in Aveiro and renovated few years back, it also contains a restaurant on top that provides a different view, and unknown by many, of this so typical space of Aveiro...

0631 - Strange pair

Julho 2013 - Aveiro, Portugal

---

A strange pair, a bicycle and a mattress with the bike "sleeping" against it in the last few nights. Is the purpose to have the bike feeling more comfortable?

0630 - Going out for a beer...

July 2013 - Aveiro, Portugal

0629 - Puch Crunch

---

To me Puch was always a synonim of old motorbikes, from the time of my uncles as I always heard stories of my mother's younger brother doing his stunts on his Puch. The Austrian company seems to have survived until now and in The Netherlands bicycles are found, such as this Puch Crunch for ladies.

0628 - Não esquecidas

Julho 2013 - Aveiro, Portugal

---

Aveiro is the land that introduced in Portugal the free usage bicycles and so it is the land of BUGAs... On a sunny weekend full of tourists, the BUGAs reappear all over the city proving that in spite a shaky period, they are not forgotten...

0627 - By mistake?

This bicycle, that in spite of the stickers I cannot identify, as a curious detail. The handlebar is upside down with a downward and opening angle, instead of upward and closing as its normal in MTB bikes. Don't know it it was a mistake in the assembly, but there was an error on my part taking the photo from an angle were its not perceptible the detail of the handlebar!

0624 - A Canyon in Fermentelos...

July 2013 - Fermentelos, Portugal
---

0623 - The timetable

---

Whilst some leave their bicycles by the entrance of the station, others prefer to leave by the trains timetable, perhaps because they need to consult it before taking one.

0621 - Wrong spot

---

Now one from the land of horizon and sea... Although there is a specific bicycle rack this one was locked to the signal that indicates the reserved parking. Its owner might have been confuse since these infrastructures are not yet common...

0619 - Perfect fit

---

Don't know if it was meant this way but the cargo area is a perfect fit for 2 fruits boxes. Although not easily perceivable in the photo, another curious detail of this bicycle is the red bulb horn.

0618 - Transbike....

July 2013 - Coimbra, Portugal

---

It's a bike? It's a moto? Ok, probably is a transexual motor bike :) No, it's a moto or something like that but with all the specifications of a common bike. Well, or a beautiful bike the motor. Well, it isn't a e-bike....

0617 - Old, old..

July 2014 - Luxemboug

---

This 1929 bicycle from Nicolas Frantz already has wooden rims, front and back brakes operated from the position where the hands are usually placed and via steel cables. The pedals now have stirrups and although it only has one speed the wheels have fast locking mechanism allowing the change of the wheel (and the speed) before the big climbs (notice the two gears, one each side). And fix the punctures since the tires are tubed ones. We think that during this time only the riders themselves were authorized to work on their own bikes during stages. Team mechanics appeared later...

0616 - In the metro

---

As said previously on another post the bicycles can be carried inside the metro, although by the rules the total number is limited and they have a specific spot for them, but when there is few people, there is no problem to be next to the owner.

0615 - The village

July 2013 - Fermentelos, Portugal

---

In the villages, the bike is a essential way that old people use to go buying the groceries or going to the curch.

0614 - On the move

---

Another photo of bicycles from the land of tulips but on other lands... In the neighbour countries, Dutch are known to travel with the house on their back, taking their auto-caravans with everything they need from their mother land. And since a proper Dutch must have a bike, they too have to be carried...

0613 - Reliquias

July 2013 - Luxembourg

---

The 1909 bicycle of François Faber only has front brakes, and (not easily visible) a mechanical one operated in the middle of the handle bar (meaning the cyclist had to move his hands to brake). The metallic brake shoe pressures the upper part of the compact tire (no air). At the back, no idea but probably they braked with the feet... The bike only had 1 speed and pedals without stirrups...

0612 - In the platform

---

Its not at all normal to see bicycles on the metro station platform. Because you can carry bikes in the metro with you and for those who only use them to go to the station there is always a parking place for bikes at the station entrance.

---

A souvenir from the city of canals... Since the Summer of 2013, contrary to the predictions, will be hot (maybe really hot) here's a photo with the scenery of the Winter 2013, to refresh the ideas, but no need to freeze the tushy as it might have happened to the 3 owners of these bikes...

0609 - Public bicycle repair station

June 2013 - Oeiras, Portugal

Made in Portugal!

---

In a startup contest, there's a company that want to give us, cyclists, the power to put again in the street our's damaged bike: a public repair station with lots of tools in one place... Great concept made in Portugal
